From the top of a milk crate, 9-year-old Spencer Collins successfully defended his Little Free Library at the city council meeting in Leawood, Kansas, last night.

The city had previously told the Collins family that their lending library violated local zoning laws, after a neighbor complained it was an “eyesore.” The Leawood City Council unanimously approved a temporary moratorium that exempts the little lending libraries from a city ordinance that prohibits structures in front yards.

Read/hear our interview yesterday with Spencer Collins and his dad, as well as the co-founder of the nonprofit organization Little Free Library, which sells and registers little libraries, here.
